Description

Another pattern within the EMont is the ‘facilitation’ pattern; the purpose of this pattern is to visualize the facilitation of certain activities, goals or conditions. It shows the underlying contributing factor. For example, an activity may contribute towards a goal, that goal might contribute to a condition. This will show which activities have an effect on something, making it elementary to view all that dependencies to reach a certain goal.

This contribution could be positive, negative or have no effect at all, essentially sometimes rendering the contribution useless. It could also be the case that some activities depend on a condition, just like described in the PQR pattern. The activity is on hold until a certain condition has been met, an example for this would be the funding of a project. In short: The pattern illustrates the relationships between the activities, goals and conditions. Since Activity A contributes towards Goal A, which in turn contributes to Condition A, which has an effect on Activity B, it can be concluded that Activity A has a relationship with Activity B, even though this is not explicitly defined. This is what is known as an implicitly defined relationship.
