The use of a simple shape, making it possible to establish a link between certain features of the design and the values of biodiversity, a sufficient number of replicas, use and comparison with existing materials and the need of fulfill civil engineering requirements, such as no frost damage, were the main requirements considered on the design of the ecoblocks. The shape selected for the hole on the research was a rhombus or diamond (Figure 1.) and a total of eight designs were created.
The intention of the designs was to keep the surface constant and to vary the number of forms and the depth/width ratio of the form as it is possible to observe on the summary table in figure 2.
